I had an opportunity to attend a elementary principal's convention on Thursday and Friday and we had an international speaker. Her name is Pam Allyn. Pam is a renowned literacy advocate. Her innovative programs and acclaimed books on the subject of literacy education fuel her internationally recognized work--training teachers, families, and entire communities worldwide in a national and global campaign to end illiteracy.
Two quotes I took from her presentation were:
1) "Reading is breathing in, Writing is breathing out." (To let us know how important reading and writing are to the lives of our children in being literate human beings.
2) "The Common Core is the new bill of rights for our children." (Challenging those who say that the common core state standards are not good for our kids).ing is breathing in, Writing is breathing out. Integrated literacy via Pam Allyn.
